Details That Elevate
Premium Materials for Bespoke Staircases
Our staircases are crafted from carefully selected timber, with European oak and joinery-grade pine being the most popular choices among homeowners and designers alike.
Oak, prized for its strength, rich grain, and timeless aesthetic, is often the preferred option for exposed staircases. Whether traditional or contemporary in design, oak staircases are typically finished with clear oils or hard wax to enhance the natural colour and protect the timber. It's a durable hardwood ideal for high-traffic areas and adds real architectural value to any home.
Pine, a more cost-effective softwood, is commonly chosen for staircases that will be painted, carpeted, or otherwise finished. Its smooth, even surface takes paint and primer exceptionally well, making it a versatile option for both modern interiors and period restorations. All pine components are kiln-dried to reduce movement and maintain structural integrity over time.
Other timbers, such as ash or walnut, are available on request for bespoke projects.
Joinery, Finish & Custom Options
We use traditional mortise and tenon or housed string construction for long-term durability, with precision machining and hand-finishing carried out in our London workshop. Treads and risers are glued and screwed, with optional anti-slip grooves or shadow gaps for a cleaner contemporary edge.
Finishing options include natural oil, stain, lacquer, or paint, tailored to suit your overall interior palette. Balustrades can be crafted in matching timber or paired with metal, glass, or painted spindles for contrast.
Every staircase is built to measure, in compliance with Building Regulations Part K, and designed to harmonise with the proportions and style of your home—whether a compact Victorian terrace or a grand London townhouse.
